Decades ago, it was common for a newspaper reporter to casually mention that during an interview, a professional baseball player was smoking a cigarette to relax. In the same off-handed manner, David Waldstein, in his article focusing on New York Yankee Russell Martin’s expertise as a catcher, “For Catcher, Mastering Mind Games Within the Game,” tells us that Martin sits down with a “large soy milk latte” to discuss baseball.
Is is not known whether Martin is lactose intolerant or dairy allergic, which might explain his choice of beverage. It is plausible that drinking soy milk is a personal choice for him, just like many choices he makes in diet and exercise to get himself through the long baseball season and perform at the highest level of his sport. He is known to be one of the best defensive catchers in Major League Baseball, and is a three-time All-Star and has won the Gold Glove award.
